In 2010, the Summit for SickKids team raised $15,000 scaling Mount Rainier. This year, we are traveling further, climbing higher and raising more money for the Hospital for Sick Children.

The 2011 Summit for SickKids climb will begin as we journey to Quito, Ecuador, the world’s second highest capital city. After spending a short time acclimatizing to the 9,000 foot elevation of the city, we will travel to the surrounding volcanoes for the next step of our journey. In preparation for our ascent of the 19,347 foot Mount Cotopaxi, we will embark on several acclimatization hikes that will allow our bodies to become accustomed to the thin air and steep terrain.

Once acclimatized, we will travel to Mount Cotopaxi and begin our climb up to 15,000 feet where we will spend the night. After a short sleep we wake at midnight and begin our summit attempt. If all goes well, we will reach the summit shortly after dawn and descend back to base camp the same day.
